What Is A Cavity?

Cavity Check Ups

To start off, a cavity develops when a tooth decays or breaks down. It is a hole in the tooth that can grow bigger and deeper with time. The bacteria in your mouth makes acid and then the formed plaque sticks to your teeth, the acids then eat away at the tooth enamel. Your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure there are no cavities and everything else looks good. If a cavity is discovered, the dentist will repair it by removing the rotted part of the tooth and then fill in the hole with special material, called filling.

Cavity Prevention

While cavities can be repaired, it is important to prevent cavities in the first place by taking care of your teeth and having good oral health. Brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste after every meal or at least twice a day is a great way to prevent tooth decay. Flossing your teeth at least once a day removes any plaque and food that is stuck between your teeth. Limiting sweets and sugary drinks like soda keeps your oral health well.
